Meet Our Clinical Team

Clinical Management Team

We have an expert medical pannel that includes some of the most highly respected and experienced cardiologists and vascular experts in the country. They give us advice on our practices and procedures and the pannel is led by our Medical Director, Dr John Coltart.

 

 

Dr D J Coltart MD FRCP FACC FESC

Emiritus Consultant Physician and Cardiologist

Dr Coltart has held a number of teaching and lecturing posts. He has been a travelling lecturer in South America; South Africa; Europe and held a position as a Visiting Professor at Stanford University in the US.

Dr Coltart has advised and served on the editorial boards of a number of notable publications and has held a number of distinguished positions including: Chairman of Regional Cardiological Committee; Chairman of South East Regional Cardiological Committee; Chairman of Specialist' Training Committee; Regional Adviser in Cardiology, Royal College of Physicians and President of Cardiology Section, Royal Society of Medicine.

Dr Coltart has also worked as a Consultant Physician for the Army, The Metropolitan Police, The AA and British Airways. He has served as a medical examiner at the University of London and a Senior Lecturer on Cardiology and is a member of the Faculty and Board of Studies in Medicine

 Timothy Phillips

Mr Michael E. Gaunt M.D FRCS (Vascular)

Consultant Vascular Surgeon- Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge

Mr Gaunt graduated with distinction from the University of Leicester Medical School in 1988 and was elected a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh in 1992. He continued his specialist surgical training in Leicester, winning a number of prestigious awards, including the Moynihan Medal of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and the European Vascular Surgery Prize (1994).

He undertook research in the field of carotid artery surgery, for which he was awarded the degree of Doctorate of Medicine (with distinction) in 1996, and was elected the Hunterian Professor of Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1997.

He continued his higher surgical training in Leicester and was appointed a lecturer in surgery, before taking up his current post as a consultant vascular surgeon at the Cambridge Vascular Unit in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

He currently performs over 500 operation in the NHS and the private sector every year, with varicose vein surgery being the commonest procedure and is experienced in the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the VNUS closure for varicose veins, endovenous laser therapy and ultrasound guided foam slerotherathy for treatment of varicose veins and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair. Mr Gaunt accepts referrals for a range of vascular and general surgery conditions.

His longstanding research interest is in reducing the risk of carotid artery surgery, for which he is supported by a number of grants from the Stroke Association, and currently heads an active research laboratory in the Cambridge Vascular Research Institute at the Addenbrooke's Hospital. He also pursues an active interest in understanding the factors underlying the outcome of aortic aneurysm surgery and ways of reducing mortality of both elective and emergency aortic aneurysm repair.

He is currently a tutor at Trinity College, an associate lecturer at the University Of Cambridge Department Of Surgery and an examiner in Surgery to the University Of Cambridge School Of Medicine.

David Campbell

Mr Eddie Chaloner BA, BM, BCh, FRCS(Edin), CUEW

Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Lewisham Hospital London

Mr Eddie Chaloner is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Lewisham Hospital NHS Trust, London, where he runs a busy NHS and private practice.  Previously he worked at University College Hospital, London.

Mr Chaloner graduated from Oxford University in 1989. After house jobs in Oxford he trained in surgery in London and South Africa. As a registrar he spent extensive time in the developing world working with the HALO Trust, an organisation involved with landmine clearance and with Médecins Sans Frontières. He has also served with 23 Parachute Field Ambulance of the British Army in Rwanda, Kosovo, and Bosnia.

He has a particular interest in the minimally invasive varicose veins treatment and was the first surgeon in London to use endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). With over 300 successful cases he is one of the most experienced surgeons in the UK with this way of treating varicose veins.

Mr Stephen Kettlewell

Consultant Vascular Surgeon - Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride

Stephen Kettlewell is Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride and Deputy Clinical Director of Surgery for NHS Lanarkshire.

His areas of interest are Varicose Veins; Endovenous Laser Surgery; Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy; Carotid Artery Disease and Peripheral Aneurysm Disease. He is a member of the European Society for Vascular Society and the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He also has a successful private practice.
